Human-Computer Interaction is a branch of Computer Science and a highly interdisciplinary field of research and practice. As a discipline, it is concerned with designing, evaluating, and implementing interactive computing systems for human use. Its primary focus lies in examining the interaction between computers and users, with the ultimate objective of enhancing the design of real-world interfaces. One key aspect of the discipline is the importance attributed to the early involvement of users in the design process and the evaluation of its outcomes.

The main research objective is to use the approaches and constructs of psychology and sociology to design better digital technologies, particularly concerning aspects related to innovative interaction paradigms, such as Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence. Additionally, we aim to harness novel computer science approaches, particularly those rooted in machine learning and big data, to drive innovation in education, research, and clinical practices within the field of psychology.

The research group on Human-Computer Interaction collaborates with several members of the Department of Psychology and Cognitive Science and, through the joint lab IT&CS (link: http://itecs.dipsco.unitn.it/), with the Center for Digital Society of Fondazione Bruno Kessler.
