The research group in the field of Work and Organizational Psychology conducts studies on human resource management, organizational well-being, lifelong career processes, and embraces the new challenges posed by the world of work and organizations. Our objective is to analyze the processes related to work behavior, particularly in the current context of the labor market, with the aim of promoting the well-being of individuals, groups, and organizations. We use both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, including questionnaires and instruments for measuring physiological indicators.
Specifically, the group conducts research on topics related to physical health (in terms of workplace safety) and psychological health (specifically work-related stress and organizational well-being). The latter topic has been explored in the context of smart working, the phenomenon of work intensification, issues related to work dependencies (e.g., workaholism and overcommitment), and organizational identification.
Another area of interest for the group pertains to lifelong career processes, considering, for example, the skills of students from lower secondary schools to their entry into the workforce. The group also focuses on processes involving the management of older workers in the workplace, with an emphasis on promoting well-being and objective and subjective career success. A recent research focus involves the use of socio-demographic data in personnel selection and how elements traceable in candidates' past educational, work, or extracurricular experiences can be used to predict personality traits. Finally, another research area concerns the role of big data and machine learning applications in the organizational context.
In addition to collaborations with various national and international networks for the development of research projects involving colleagues from European and non-European universities, the research group has developed studies and interventions involving the national territory as well as the Province of Trento. For example, collaborations with the labor agency on the topics of unemployment and career transitions; partnerships with various schools on the topic of students' psychosocial resources; collaborations with institutes involved in training and workplace safety; collaborations with training organizations to assess the effectiveness of training programs; partnerships with research foundations and the Province of Trento on the topics of remote work and work-life balance; collaborations with the university for the evaluation of work-related stress and the promotion of worker well-being; and collaborations with the university on the topic of career mentoring for recent graduates.
